Late night musings from the last two days.

1. What we need is a benevolent dictator with a pathological hatred for tabloid newspapers. This country would improve no end! I paraphrase: "Whoever you vote for, the government always gets in" quoth Frank Zappa...even a less passive monarchy would do it for me - keep the politicoes on their toes!

2. Isn't it lucky that only men get haemophilia?

3. The most wonderful, emotional, soul-jangling, ball-breaking songs I've heard live are:
One - Metallica
Chaos AD - Sepultura
South of Heaven - Slayer
Aerials - System of a Down
Thieves - Ministry
War Pigs - Black Sabbath

There may be more, but they are the ones that come immediately to mind, at least a couple of them moving me to tears at the time or later! They may all have done if it wasn't for the fact that physical catharsis is often hard to avoid to some of those songs before tears get a chance!

1) i've always thought i'd make a good patriarch, provided i stayed in bed when having misanthropic days. :)

2) well, presumably natural selection literally killed that genetic idea off pretty quickly :>

3) whenever i find an emotionally jarring song, it loses its effect after a while, annoyingly.

It certainly is difficult to reach those musical heights again, but at least I have the memories!

women can get haemophelia, too. it's just less common.

ball-breaking songs i've heard live -

weak & powerless, a perfect circle
the noose, a perfect circle
almost every song sung by peter murphy during his dust tour - my GOD i thought i was going to die happy on my way home.

>women can get haemophelia, too. it's just less common.
yes that is true. if the father has haemophelia and the mother is a carrier there will be a 25% chance that the child will be a girl with haemophelia.
ahhh my days as a genetics student all come flooding back to me!

As I said earlier, isn't it carried on the Y chromosome, rendering it virtually impossible for women to get it?

[identity profile] oldpheobe.livejournal.com 2003-11-08 10:23 am (UTC)(link)
No it is on the X chromosome meaning women get two copies of the gene whereas men only get one. As it is a recessive trait women can carry the gene for haemophilia and not show any symptoms for the disease, whereas if men have the gene they will automatically have the disease because they will have no backup on the Y chromosome.

Okay :O)

[identity profile] cheekbones3.livejournal.com 2003-11-08 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
Are you sure? I thought that haemo was only carried on the Y chromosome? I suppose you could theoretically have an XXY person...

[identity profile] meran555.livejournal.com 2003-11-08 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
it's on the X - which is why men get it more frequently - if they have the mutation on their X chromosome, they don't have another X to take over - which is how women are carriers.

By the way, are you coming to Champions today (1.30pm here)?

I still cry at 'Creep' by Radiohead. Grrrr, I'm pathetic :)

[identity profile] cheekbones3.livejournal.com 2003-11-08 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
Aye good song - shame I've heard it way too much these days!

also, 3 libras (http://www.stormpages.com/lyrics/text/mer.html#6) by a perfect circle.
*sigh*
that one gets me every time, and they played it last night...

I should maybe listen to them more!
