Geek question: Is it usual these days when Windows is pre-installed on a new computer for the Windows disks not to be supplied to the owner? That seems to be the recent experience of my work work colleagues.

with pc's from big name shops yeah, they have a part of the hard drive partitioned as "automatic recovery" or something.

it's basically already on the pc from what I understand, if that's not the case though then it's just the shop being dicks.

yeh they either do a recovery partition, or they give you recovery cds. they are trying to cut down on pirated coppies or something.

When I got my computer it never came with a windows installation cd I did get 3 recovery disks but I have then updated my windows as it came with ME edition and it made my computer hellish.

Thankfully being friends with an IT um engineer we got free xp disk and free top of the range virus scanning stuff =)

he never left it :( he came installed it, my mum cut his hair and he took disk, its the disk he takes when going to install it into big companies computers.

Probably depends where you get it from. Mine was online from Scan, & i got the disks too.
