Geek request

What is the point of FOAF sites? It's been pointed out to me that this link indexes my journal, and all others on my friends list in fact, although I'm not totally sure if it bypasses friends' pages or not, but it seems possible. Is there any way to stop this happening?

I'd guess that since the information is already in the public domain, there's very little one can do to stop the actual friends' indexing from happening. Probably your only recourse would be to lock all your entries.

Aye that's what I assumed. I just don't see the point really, apart from to get round protection.

I was just thinking that last night. I was in a hurry to find something else so didn't dwell but I remember thinking I wasn't happy about something as it was showing something I usually choose to keep hidden. I'm going back for a look.

Tell me what you reckon when you've had a poke around anyway.

I checked by logging out of lj and then looking again and I couldn't see my locked posts etc. I was logged into LJ when I stunbled across it last night which will be why I could see things I was hoping others couldn't. So it appears harmless....

It didn't until you asked for it...

[identity profile] luckylove.livejournal.com 2005-03-15 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
so if I asked for a page on another user it would create one for them too?
That sucks. I guess it doesn't really matter cos that info is readily available from the lj info page.

Yup, that's all it's doing - taking a machine-readable version of the userinfo page and presenting it in a different format.
