Yet more

I know, I can't spell accommodation. But in the quiz tonight, of all thirteen teams that were there, only one of them actually spelt "Donington" correctly for an answer. Impressive!

Question of the week: Which two Olympic sports moved from the Summer games to the Winter games when they were created in 1924?

Ice hockey?

Um, dunno. Some sort of skating?

Yep, ice hockey and figure skating. Nice one!

Curling and figure skating?

Triathalon? - or whatever the one with the shooting is called. And probably something obvious like downhill skiing.

The Rifle Shooting and Skiing is Biathalon, though Top Gear did it so much better ;)

Ice hockey and figure skating - I'm not sure they could ahve wangeld skiing into any summer event!

[identity profile] henriksdal.livejournal.com 2008-07-16 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah yes, but back then if they didn't have a seperate "summer" and "winter" olympics it'd have just been "olympics" and not seasonally specific sports.

Not sure how they would have skied in the summer, though... I was getting confused by the story of how some Austrian cavalry officer invented the winter olympics to contain all the skills needed when fighting in the winter. I may have dreamt that story.

The original games were based on the old Greek Olympic games, so I doubt there was much skiing then, even if it wasn't specifically summer games :O)

I think you may indeed have dreamt that, although I can't confirm it!

The team of students we were helping made me feel old, but they gave us sweeties :-) This was obviously a question after the music round, by which time we'd left feeling quite knowledgeable (& knowing that the next questions would be harder, hehe).

They finished well down, but not embarrassingly far away!

You should have seen their music round before they handed it over to us! Mind you, I did mistake Gene Pitney for Roy Orbison *sighs at self* Apparently 19 year old students are too young to remember The Verve though, which made me feel very old :-(

Eek, that is scary.
