Yep, research assistant jobs are so few and far between that they tend to get on average 100+ applicants to every position. I'm always either over-qualified or under-experienced so I've gone off on tangents, mainly social work.

Don't think that I can afford to do my PhD until the kids are both at school.

What are you applying for and will you be on our screens any time soon? ;)

The trick is getting some experience somewhere doing something! Once you get going it seems a lot easier at least. Best of luck anyway :O)

I'm currently applying for the stats job I was doing last year. Aiming to be on telly by the end of the decade! Or at least working in the area...

Is it one of those "fill out 26 pages in your own handwriting, with every last detail of your life, including when and where you learned to tie your shoelaces" jobs? I always keep a photocopy of one of those handy in case any others come along!

Nah - it's a competency based form, which means I've got to write about various situations I've been in, what I did, why, how, and how I would have done it better. All in 120 words for each one. Five of those, and a two page thing on analysing car usage figures, and ideas on surveying people on congestion etc etc *yawn*

At least I've justr finished. Woo! Will leave it until the morning to re-read and then send it off...
