Who Should You Vote For?

Who should I vote for?

Your expected outcome:

Liberal Democrat

Your actual outcome:

Labour -8
Conservative -26
Liberal Democrat 36
UK Independence Party 10
Green 9

You should vote: Liberal Democrat

The LibDems take a strong stand against tax cuts and a strong one in favour of public services: they would make long-term residential care for the elderly free across the UK, and scrap university tuition fees. They are in favour of a ban on smoking in public places, but would relax laws on cannabis. They propose to change vehicle taxation to be based on usage rather than ownership.

Interesting - I expected Lib Dem and came out green. Will still vote Lib Dem though as I might be able to evict Labour that way :)

Aye those are my thoughts, although I would vote that way anyway.

i got much the same :>
in that blurb, i don't like the road usage thing. sounds too much like an excuse for the gps/satellite tracking all vehicles thing. not sure about the smoking ban either.

I never thought of that. I just thought about it more from how my mother lives. Runs a car but very rarely travels far. About 5000 miles a year so she would benefit from something like that.

Yep I was neutral about both of those, and a couple of other things as well, which I would do in very different ways (if at all).

but but but... I thought there was a (small?) possibility of a hung parliament which would involve the Conservatives sneaking in to power, and surely voting Lib Dem would increase that possibility? I totally see why you would - I voted for them last time and am still not 100% sure if I can bring myself to vote Labour, but if it comes down to voting AGAINST the Tories I'll happily do it. Argh. *worry :z

A hung Parliament would only be hung in terms of the total seats held by the Tories and Lib Dems being comparable to Labour's, and since the Lib Dems would almost never vote with the Tories on key issues, it's really not something you should worry about. The real power-brokers there would be the smaller parties holding a handful of seats such as the nationalists or one side or other in Ulster, and if Labour formed a minority government, they would have to win over these smaller parties on each issue if they couldn't get the concensus of the bigger parties.
