Went to the Mission Retribution last night to discover that ructions have happened (overtly this time), the crap DJs are out (Craig), and there's a choice of rock/metal to listen to! Glad I turned up that night given that it was the first time in over a year that I've done so, and it's the first time in many a year I've got severely mingingly sweaty in there on a Saturday.

They seem to be trying to listen to the customers now (setting up a mailing list and texting service) and sorting out a website for requests and general opinions on the place.

Good decision to cut whatever club had been tacked on upstairs in recent times (I get the impression that the goth bit was struggling and that the one on inbetween weeks never really got sorted out (and the goths have loads of clubs anyway), and now it's just the heavy room where the likes of me can escape to for generally crunching whiplash-inducing metal of many types and ages. I was very pleased. The club gives me the impression now of a similar style to the likes of Rock City and Jilly's with two rooms of different styles of metal, but ostensibly metal, instead of any standard thrash fans being forced to put up with no more than two songs heavier than SOAD or Walk by Pantera. Again. Long may it continue, and I commend the night to you all!

Sounds good. If the rumours are true then they didn't treat Dave very well and stuff over this, but I do much prefer the sound of this club; finally, some proper metal.

Which one was Craig? Was he the one who start playing a good song and then cut halfway through to another one? That seriously annoyed me.

Aye true about not treating him well, but they took the decision that he was killing the place by not putting anything at all into it.

Craig was the one that always did the final set and finished with Sweet Child O Mine and Back in Black usually, or something like that anyway...

But none of the so called goth clubs play goth any goth music. It's all that bleepy shite. This is why I currently only go to Planet Earth. You know what to expect with cheesy 80s music.

Retribution sounds shite and I dislike metal so I won't be going. DJs who change records halfway through songs deserve to be shot.

Yep I agree, I like old goth clubs.

I used to like a good rock/metal club when I was younger, I only really listen to it at home of the pub jukebox due to feeling out of place in newer rock nights. I also used to like a good goth club but there hasn't been one with a decent music policy for a looooong time.
The new night sounds good for what it is, despite annoying the existing clubs called Retribution and Hades by using their names! I'm rather annoyed at the wat they handles the old crew. After all these years they were owed better than that.

I'm told they were asked a few times to sort things out, but it is indeed a pretty poor way for things to happen.

Its not called Retribution.. its Redemption. But I had a laugh at Ian calling ot that as I kept calling it that too for some reason...

I'm not sure what you mean...

[identity profile] littlemsmortis.livejournal.com 2006-07-26 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh right, di I misread or misunderstand the name? I got the Retribution name from the people who post on behalf of the club
http://www.edinburghmetalscene.co.uk/showthread.php?t=15504
http://www.edinburghmetalscene.co.uk/showthread.php?t=15568 to the EMS site.

Redemption used to be a Goth night run by EdG&R. I'm not sure if they still intend doing it or not since I've been moved away from the area some time and haven't been to any meetings.

So, they are advertising it incorrect name and using another Edinburgh club's name? Oh dear, that's not a good start!

The other club called Retribution is in England and is also most definitely called "Retribution".

I'm not sure what I'm trying to explain here, because I'm not sure what your comment meant. It seems to be saying we were calling the new club by the wrong name?

Re: I'm not sure what you mean...

Nope, she was saying she called it that by accident!

[identity profile] neriedes.livejournal.com 2006-07-16 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
So who is organising and DJing now and how much is it to get in?

[identity profile] gibberling.livejournal.com 2006-07-16 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
still £5, but it's now Dunc, a guy called Mark, Vikki and Sy DJing that I seen. If what I hear is right, Mark is a Cathouse DJ or connected in some way.

[identity profile] cheekbones3.livejournal.com 2006-07-16 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
It's run in-house now, possibly Dunk is sorting the DJs, and the prices are still the same on the door.

[identity profile] neferet.livejournal.com 2006-07-16 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
yep. We have oodles of Goth clubs. That would be why I now have to go to Glasgow or Leeds if I want a night out at a 'goth' club then...

[identity profile] cheekbones3.livejournal.com 2006-07-16 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Notice I didn't use the word "decent"...

[identity profile] neferet.livejournal.com 2006-07-17 12:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't even mention 'decent'... Currently as far as I know there isn't anything at all running in Edinburgh...

[identity profile] cheekbones3.livejournal.com 2006-07-17 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought goths never came out in this heat anyway?
