Geek advice please

cheekbones3My DVD player is refusing to give me a picture, although the sounds seem fine. I've not done anything to it, and it's not been disconnected or anything. Any ideas what it might be? I can't check whether the SCART cable has died because I don't have a spare.
EDIT: I also want to connect my PS2 to an amplifier, but it only has one non-optical output socket, whereas I have two leads. One appears to be an audio output lead with three jacks, and the other is the standard TV lead. Any advice?
