Well that was quite fun to watch-the statue coming down. Rather symbolic, as the bloody telly announcer kept saying in fifty different ways.

But why oh why did the soldier put the american flag over the statue's face? Do they still not understand???!

How many millions of people take great offence at that sort of thing; the apparent conquest and world domination of that country etc etc

The guys on the ground most definitely don't understand. They don't get the accusations of ill intention because they don't have that particular ill intention. They may be ignorant of the sensitivities of Arab opinion, but they did just risk their lives for that flag - I think they earned a bit of patriotism.

And after all, the reality is that if America really wanted to conquer the world, it probably could. It just proved it. A bit of flag waving isn't as bad as it could be by a long shot. If it had been a few years ago and a different super-power, you could be sure that once the flag was there, it would be staying.

Hmmm...I suppose so, but "hearts and minds" should be paramount as far as we've been told! It doesn't take much for them to be told.
