Well the landlord rumbled us - amazingly enough he didn't know that there's been an extra person living on our flat since well before I moved in, and now he'll be putting the rent up, I assume at least 30-35%. This may force our hands somewhat...

Can he do that legally? I mean, you're renting the flat, not the number of rooms ....
