In other news, it's my birthday next week, but since it's on a Tuesday, I'm just going to get pissed while presenting the quiz in the Auld Hoose, which may provide amusing viewing for you!

There are tentative ideas from dee_ to have a joint thing on the 16th for her and gibberling's birthdays with mine tacked on too, so more details about that should follow.

Switching from IE does not preclude the use of firefox. IMO firefox is a pile of rubbish, and in protest of this the only piece of non-open source software that I use on my computer is Opera, which kicks the crap out of firefox because it is a) useful, b) not a big bag of memory leaks, c) fucking brilliant, d) supports more mouse gestures, e) is amazing, f) also free and now free of advertising, g) is fantastic, h) has a sensible implementation of CSS (as opposed to the "standards compliant" and therefore useless implementation in firefox), i) has been doing tabbed browsing for the best part of 5 years (and is actually good at it, unlike firefox, which opens random windows instead of tabs, and seems to not come with a native recall of what sessions you had open when you closed it) j) is the best web browser in the world k) is shit fast l) is norwegian ;)

Ever considered being a salesman? I just went for Firefox because it wasn't IE, but if Opera is that good, then I may well try it! Can you export bookmarks from Firefox into it (since I'm a lazy shite)?

OneOverZero develop exclusively with Opera ;) It really is fantastic. I am currently on 8.02, which still contains advertising, but there is an 8.5 release without advertising but allegedly not as stable as the last major release (not tried it myself).

I love Opera so much that I was on the brink of buying a full licence (totally unheard of for other software!) before they released the advertising free version.

Also, you will notice that most pages look somehow nicer in Opera than they do in any other browser. Can't put my finger on it exactly. Probably something to do with their total dominance in the embedded market (a ridiculously high percentage of all TV browsers and other embedded technologies use the Opera core as their rendering and browsing engine - it is considered to be the best (and fastest) in the world)

Okay I've been trying Opera, and have numerous gripes: They don't seem to have many (simple to use) dedicated plug-ins, such as Ad-Block, although I found some random third-party stuff which didn't appear to be quick install (I can't really be arsed pissing about with dll files unless I really have to); I set the browser to block pop-ups, but they still kept coming, and Flash applications seemed to work only intermittently; I couldn't get it to accept cookies half the time, and therefore couldn't log in to stuff. I do admit that it looks nice and runs quickly, but I find that Firefox has much better upgrading and plug-in resources and information, and until I find Opera as easy to get started with as I did Firefox, I'll be reluctant to use it!
