Apparently, teachers at a certain school aren't allowed to stand in for their lollipop man when he's off work because they aren't trained. The children therefore cross the busy road with no help at all. Health and Safety at its best folks!

In other news, it appears that the only part of the country actually in Autumn continues to be the Shetland Isles, while the rest of us put up with the murky fag-end of an extended summer. This is going to continue past the weekend, but I think I read early hints that the cooler air may eventually get to us in the next week or two. Could be wet and windy in the interim either way though.

The lollipop person story makes perfect sense to me. The teachers just wouldn't have the training to ignore the taunts and teasing and might deliberately walk the kids out in front of a moving vehicle. They're much safer on their own. Also, the teacher might be blind or wearing a veil and we all know that wearing a veil makes you a useless, second-class citizen.

Not sure how anyone actually recognises the fact that Autumn has descended upon Shetland, as we have no trees so you can't see the leaves turning...and it is always so misty you can't actually see outside...regardless of season...but hey at least we did something first for once!

Think at the moment it just means you're five degrees cooler than anywhere else. And misty.

I know I could find something on google, but do you know any good up-to-the-minute satelite images of Scotland cloud cover?

(So I can look at an Aurora Watch Red Alert and know roughly where to drive to see the Northern Lights (should such a thing occur any time soon...))

It's about the best I can manage in my condition. Pre-bipolar I probably could've come up with a mathematical equation that would link everything in the top 5 stories bit. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

I only know ones that update hourly, like BBC, or Met Office for rainfall at least. Not so good really! Last time I saw one of those alerts at nighttime, I was lucky enough to be outside the pub just before the quiz and the sky turned green :o)

Speaking of health and safety, my Dad saw a man from the council removing conkers from trees so they didn't fall on peoples' heads. It is a sad day indeed.

Deary me! They should probably just cut down all the trees, in case there's a storm - people could get hurt. *sigh*
