I'm still waiting with a high level of hope for a newsreader to tell me about the Large Hardon Collider. They're all so careful about saying it correctly...

This sort of thing pleases me more than it should!

Six hours until England v Australia in the Fuur Nations final - I wonder if we can actually beat them for a change. Would be the first time we'd taken any sort of tournament off them since the 1972 World Cup! Such is the strength of their league I suppose.

In non-sporting news, it appears that the new fridge is happy. I have lots of soup burbling away on the cooker with the last of the previous freezer's contents. Hopefully I won't have to eat it all myself, I'm enough of a lardy pie as it is!

Also, it seems our walls can't take the combined weight of two curtains. This is going to take some big screws, and possibly a plasterer...

Took delivery of a new fridge at some unearthly hour this morning. Better than sitting around all day I suppose. All appears to be fine with it. Was amused by the instructions though:

"Place in a well-ventilated humidity-free environment".

I'm currently trying to decide whether I should sne dthe fridge back, or just buy a tonne of silica gel for the living room.

Slayer postponed? Oh noes!

Race circuit designers clearly don't play enough Mario Kart.

Well it looks like The Haunted are supporting Slayer in the UK. Anyone know if they're any good?

In other news, I won a month of free training with British Military Fitness and went a first session tonight. I've now become one of those muppets in a coloured bib running round the Meadows and getting in the way, so for the next month I'm going to use that to try to get my fitness up to a decent level, as it's quite an intense hour of gerbilness. Not the most interesting of training, but there might be some variety in the sessions.

This Sunday it's Scotland v Lebanon in the European Cup, so I'm off to watch that to make up for not being able to go see England v Australia the previous evening, which should be a bit more intense. I'm interested to see how strong the Lebanese will be - I imagine they'll be on a par with Scotland's lower level Super League standard, but I don't actually know what their squad is like at the moment.

Korfball league matches haven't kicked in yet, two weeks hence we meet the top two teams from the last two seasons to open our campaign. Ouch! Hopefully, we'll scrape at least one win, but we'll have to play bloody well. Anyway, I'm babbling now. I wasn't before, you understand.

Interesting to see the BNP leader failing to adequately answer most questions, followed by Jack Straw being hamstrung by the things he can't say about Labour policy illustrating exactly why many apparently sane people vote for disingenuous fascist gits. Scary that the Tory is the politician that gets closest to what the problem. Good Yorkshire lass I suppose, rather misguided however in her politics :)

I missed the details that the Lib Dem bloke was talking about.

Oh, and apparently most British (well, English, Scots, Welsh and Irish) people are descended from people from these isles from the last 17,000 years. Erm, what?!

Freedom of speech ftw.

One of my pedals snapped as I pulled out into Clerk Street. Fun times!

It was the first Super League play-off game last night at Headingley. Chev Walker had the unfortunate pleasure of being tackled by Keith Senior...Crunch

In other news, it's been a busy week or two at work, but I'm off until Tuesday now which is nice. Went to see Billy Connolly last night, and he was excellent as hoped, although he's just starting to appear (mentally at least) like a slightly doddery old man, which is strange. The joke about the baby elephant's trunk was worth the entry fees itself!

What else? Korfball appears to be happening, and much better than a year ago. I suppose a year's experience, and what appears to be more enthusiasm from people around the place all makes things seem like they'll run more smoothly this year!

Sammhuin prep is going on, and I'm almost blissfully unaware of it. I don't know what it is about this time of year, but it's almost like I want to enjoy the onset of Autumn without such distractions. In fact, maybe instead of finding a beach today, finding a forest to walk in might be a good idea.

Right, I should really have some (more) brekky. Weetabix with honey? Okay then.

Okay, after my recent PC issues, my latest diagnosis is that my hard drive is banjaxed. The behaviour is now that it'll run in safe mode if it's standing up, but if it's on its side, it won't run at all, which sounds distinctly mechanical to me. Would anyone agree with this assessment?

That leads me on to what I should do next. I've rescued a load of files onto my external hard drive at least, so I shouldn't in theory lose anything important.

My options appear to be as follow:

1) Use the external HD as the main drive, but I don't want to do this.
2) Get hold of another hard drive. Is this easy to do, and are there compatability issues?
3) Anything else?

The main problem I see is that I don't have an original XP disk, since the person I bought the computer from didn't know where it was, and I don't know if it's possible to transfer the OS from an old drive to a new one, and I don't want to anyway, a fresh installation would be nice.

Your thoughts please!

Note to self: Sit in front of telly this Saturday afternoon. Do not move until Huddersfield or Warrington have won the cup. Drink beer. Shout lots.

More immediate note to self. Put on Slayer t-shirt and perpare to go watch Faith No More.

This is a Good Week.

Yet another journalist tells me something may "wet my appetite". It's "whet" you tosspot, to whet is to sharpen. How did you get that job?

My appetite is never wet. Well sometimes it is I suppose. But that's beside the point.

Strange thing to be grumpy about, but after years of having it the way I wanted it (hubba hubba), I've discovered today that I can't (apparently) change the default setting of the order my messages appear in Hotmail. This is tedious.

In other news, I'm still enjoying the crap weather immensely, although I would quite like a few more thunderstorms please.

More homonym fun: "here here" instead of "hear hear". Always makes me want to reply "there, there".

Pleaseing news today that the UK's been awarded the 2013 RL World Cup. This (if Scotland manage to qualify) mean a couple of games in Edinburgh at least, which pleases me greatly.

I wasn't sure whether it was sensible to actually announce this on the same day that the RU World Cup was announced too, but in hindsight, the story piggybacks nicely and is probably picking up more publicity than it otherwise would have done.

The festival at the weekend (Big Tent) was billed as an eco-festival. It was a pretty piss-poor attempt at greenness to be fair.

There were a few recycling bins around, but there were many more non-recycling bins, mainly overflowing by Saturday evening. I saw no wind turbines providing power. There were a hell of a lot of cars there. We were purportedly going to receive recycling bags on arrival, but this never happened - stewarding and general organisation was pretty lax really, or relaxed at best. It wasn't entirely veggie. Shops were selling bottled water.

I know it's tough to do such a thing, but there were many ways in which it could have been done better!

In other news, I've been racking my brains at how the former model and porn actress who was again convicted of bigamy today has managed to persuade so many men to marry her. Nope, can't think of any reasons at all.
